The Breakfast Beer Incident

On July 24th, 2018, Leo Babauta made an incredible advancement in the field of Ultralight Backpacking cuisine. The discovery was made seemingly by chance - though there are some who believe that Leo did in fact come up with the idea intentionally, for how could random chance create a thing of such genius? The following is a timeline of the events that would later become known as The Breakfast Beer Incident.

Late Afternoon, Day 1

Leo and his sons arrive at what would become their campsite. They prepare sleeping arrangements and begin to rehydrate their pre-packed dinner.

Early Evening, Day 1

In anticipation of a well-earned freeze dried dinner, Leo makes his way downhill of the campsite and places an IPA in a bag which he then rests in a shallow stream. He hopes that the cold water will prep the beer (which was likely the heaviest item in his pack) for later enjoyment.

Late Evening, Day 1

Leo returns to the stream after dark and is unable to locate the precious IPA. He recruits his sons for help with the hunt. They spend the better part of an hour searching, but are ultimately unsuccessful in their efforts. Leo returns to camp and goes to sleep thirsty.

Morning, Day 2

A renewed search in the morning results in the discovery of the first ever ice-cold, never-before-seen breakfast beer!
